Raven is a symbol, the meaning of which is determined by the skills and qualities of this bird. There is a legend that the raven got its black plumage due to contact with fire and smoke from funeral pyres.
In the myths of many nations, the raven is the intermediary that stands between life and death; between heaven, earth and the underworld. Also, many believe that the raven is a messenger of evil. This is due to the fact that the bird feeds on carrion or, in an attempt to find insects, digs in the ground. The crow is also called bloody due to the fact that it can peck out the eyes of its victim.
